Just Gone 6: Vigilante Dance Brothers

Posted in: MARCIE SPEAKS   July 22, 2011

JUST GONE 6 compare themselves to the vigilante brothers of BoonDock Saints, who set out to rid their home city of crime and evil. However, Just Gone 6 are not crime fighters. They are two singer/songwriters who have been making music together since first meeting in their middle school cafeteria. The duo, Grant Cook and Mike Miller, write most of their dance influenced songs on a 140 year old piano, and perform both as a band and DJ act. Over the years, their sound has evolved to reflect both introspection and anthemic pop elements, and they have taken the stage at legendary venues such as The Viper Room in Los Angeles, and The Bitter End in New York.

Marcie speaks with Just Gone 6 right before the August 9th release of their debut single and video.  Just Gone 6 will be taking their live show and DJ set on the road nationwide. Catch them live in August at WKTU’s Beatstock, The DJ Expo, and at Mega Jam.

DËHASSE: Belgium’s Masked Man

Posted in: MARCIE SPEAKS   July 18, 2011

The race for the this summer’s Ibiza anthem is underway. One contending track is the mystically titled ‘Alchemist’, from up and coming masked Beligum talent, DËHASSE. At only six months into his career, Dëhasse was signed to Belgium’s major label Verszuz (Universal Records). Dëhasse’s debut single, “In Da House”, has received over 50,000 hits on youtube, support from Tiesto, as well as appearing on the Belgium editions Pacha compilation.

Dëhasse is regularly being aired on the UK’s Kiss FM, and North America’s Sirius Satellite Radio, and is now on a whirlwind tour of over ten countries. His North American tour kicked off this weekend at Denver Red Rocks “Global Dance Festival’ in Colorado, where he shared the festival stages with the likes of Benny Benassi, Gareth Emery and Avicii.

Marcie sat down with Dëhasse to speak with him about his sound, his tour, and the artist behind the mask.

Stereojax: Debut EP ‘Innocent’

Posted in: MARCIE SPEAKS   June 24, 2011

Stereojax, aka James Mazlen and Phil Vassil, are musical partners who benefit from a long working relationship spanning 15 years, and covering many sonic ideas. After forming a band, they were signed to V2 Records in 1996. They toured the world influencing many Indie/Electronica artists to come after. Now Mazlen and Vassil are back as Stereojax, and part of the generation of artists blurring the sound between electronic and indie rock. Stereojax claims to be influenced by the likes of Kraftwork, Tangerine Dream, LCD Soundsystem, and MGMT. Stereojax’s debut EP release, “Innocent” is mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer, (Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, Muse). “Innocent” appears on the soundtrack for Test Drive Unlimited 2, alongside tracks by Fischerspooner, and Deadmau5.

Marcie sat down with Mazlen and Vassil to find out what has changed in their sound, partnership, and perspective over the last 15 years.
